Wait, wait, wait... what do you mean the brand we’re building already exists?
That’s exactly what happened while working with Botl. Originally named MALMO, the team wanted to move quickly with the branding guide so they could focus on testing their prototypes. Since their concept was inspired by Scandinavian design, they settled on MALMO as the name. It felt perfect.
But then we did a quick check with our trusty lawyer... and surprise! The name was already registered. And the worst part? We found out after crafting the entire brand identity.
Luckily, the team at Botl took it like champs. They laughed it off (because they’re awesome) and admitted that, yes, we had warned them about this before starting the design phase. But instead of dwelling on it, we got to work—redesigning the brand without skipping a beat.
At the end of the day, branding isn’t about saying, “I told you so.” It’s about standing by your client’s side and making things work, no matter what. Because in business (and in life), being flexible is everything.
